In the heart of the Midwest, where cornfields stretch as far as the eye can see and hard work runs deep in our veins, innovation meets tradition. At North Iowa Sand and Gravel, Inc., we're proud to be part of this legacy for over 50 years, offering sustainable solutions that not only drive construction projects forward but also preserve the beauty of our Northern Iowa landscape. So, grab your work boots and join us as we explore the road less traveled—the one paved with Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP).

Embracing Tradition, Driving Progress
Here in Northern Iowa, we value tradition and hard work above all else. And while some may see sustainability as a trendy buzzword, we see it as an opportunity to honor our heritage while building a brighter future. That's where RAP comes in—a tried-and-true solution that blends the old with the new, preserving our roads and our way of life for generations to come.

From Road to RAP: How It's Made
So, how exactly is RAP made and processed? It all starts with the careful removal of existing asphalt pavement from roads, parking lots, and other surfaces. Once removed, the asphalt is transported to processing facility where it undergoes a meticulous sorting and crushing process.

First, the reclaimed asphalt pavement is inspected and cleaned to remove any debris or contaminants. Then, it's fed into a powerful crusher, where it's broken down into smaller pieces. These pieces are then screened to ensure uniformity and quality, with any oversized materials being reprocessed for further refinement.

Once the RAP has been properly processed and screened, it's ready to be reused in new construction projects. Whether it's being mixed with fresh asphalt binder for road resurfacing or used as a base material for new pavement, RAP offers a sustainable alternative to traditional asphalt materials, reducing the need for virgin resources and minimizing waste.

More Than Meets the Eye
RAP may not be as flashy as a brand-new highway, but what it lacks in glitz, it more than makes up for in grit and resilience. Made from reclaimed asphalt pavement, RAP is the unsung hero of construction projects across Northern Iowa, offering durability, versatility, and cost savings—all while giving old asphalt a second chance to shine.
